World of Concrete 2005 Back in Vegas and Stronger than Ever

World of Concrete returned to Las Vegas January 17-21, attracting over 73,000 construction professionals from over 111 countries who came to source thousands of new products, ideas and technologies from 1,597 exhibiting, confirming WOC's role as the leading industry provider of concrete, masonry and technology solutions. This year's show set several milestones including the second largest number of buyers and exhibits in the history of World of Concrete!

Feedback from the show floor was extremely positive from both new and veteran exhibitors.

World of Concrete is not only the place for the newest products, but the place to source new suppliers as well. More than 330 companies exhibited for the first time at the 2005 event and product offerings included everything from batch plants, concrete mixing equipment, scaffolding and grout pumps to trucks, loaders, cranes, sawing equipment and more.

World of Concrete's Seminar Program is lauded as one of the finest in the industry. More than 22,000 sessions were taken by attendees at this year's show. The World of Concrete program is the most in-depth in the industry featuring more than 90 seminars in targeted tracks covering everything from Concrete Basics to Decorative Concrete and Best Management Practices. Seminar Master Certificates are awarded to individuals attending four seminars in a specific subject track.

World of Concrete features special product and action areas including The Producer Center, a dedicated marketplace of materials, equipment, demos and seminars for concrete producers; Material Handling, offering trucks, excavators and more for material delivery, distribution, concrete placement and earth moving; Concrete Repair & Demolition, housing a display of surface preparation equipment, scarifying, grinding, sawing equipment and other demolition products; World of Masonry, showcasing a full range of products, tools, information and technology for masonry professionals; and new for 2005, Technology for Construction, a premier feature within World of Concrete sponsored by McGraw-Hill Construction, featuring the newest products and solutions for the construction industry from top IT and Systems providers.

World of Concrete's popular Mega Demos packed the bleachers while experts demonstrated the uses of shotcrete during Tuesday's "Shotcrete - Versatility Plus!" demo. The latest techniques and products in Decorative Concrete were demonstrated Wednesday and Thursday in the "Mega Mega Decorative Concrete Extravaganza" featuring indoor and outdoor applications of stamping, staining, stenciling and more.

Competitions included the Producers' Challenge, a 3-1/2 day competition for pre-certified contestants to demonstrate their operating and safety knowledge of front-end loaders and the popular Masons' Challenge featuring the SPEC Mix Bricklayer 500 Competition and Tenders' Competition. The Winner of this year's Masons' Challenge was Michael Boll of Boll Masonry, Oak Lawn, IL. The Craftsmanship Award Winner went to Glenn Houghton Jr. of Five Star Masonry, Leclaire, IA. The winning Tender was Felipe Reyes, of F. Monarca Masonry, Middlefield, CT.

The exciting and successful new information technology marketplace, Technology for Construction, included a unique 40-session conference program, in addition to product exhibits, as well as a high-level Executive Forum sponsored by Open Text and chaired by Engineering News Record (ENR) consulting editor, Scott Shuster. Forum panelists included experts from Autodesk, Bentley Systems, C.W. Driver, Graphisoft, Center for Integrated Facility Engineering (CIFE), EMCOR, HDR and Shaw.

During World of Concrete 2005, a reception took place for World of Concrete Mexico 2005. Speakers from Mexico and the US reviewed the impressive numbers from the inaugural show and the growing Mexican concrete/construction industry. The 2005 show takes place June 15-17, 2005 in Mexico City and is already over 75% sold!

World of Concrete 2006 will return to Las Vegas January 17-20, 2006; Seminars: 16-20. World of Concrete is pleased to have been selected to participate in the United States Department of Commerce International Buyer Program for 2006.
