Leica Geosystems: GS5 GPS receiver

September 29, 2000
Leica Geosystems introduced the GS5 GPS receiver, designed to provide a “plug and play” geolocation solution for GIS data collectors. The GS5 includes a 12-channel GPS receiver with a built-in differential beacon receiver, batteries, charger, telescopic antenna pole and durable backpack. The GS5 calculates the user’s position from GPS satellite transmissions, corrected with differential error corrections from a nearby reference station, and outputs real-time position measurements accurate to within 2 to 5 m. The system interfaces directly with a user’s ESRI ArcPad data collector or any other GIS data acquisition system. (Leica Geosystems GPS, Torrance, Calif.)
