Coordinate change when importing into Civil 3D

Posted by: Fathead

Recently I had civil 3d loaded on my new computer.  Autocad Administrator told me LDD2007 is no longer being supported, therefore won't be installed.  Must use Civil 3D 2013.  I am importing a fieldbook file into an existing LDD drawing using Civil3D.  When imported, all the points are roughly 2 feet to the south and west.  Open fieldbook file and starting coordinates are correct, but not correct in the dwg.  Any suggestions as to why?  I think it is just a simple setting, but can find out which one.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  I can export the points to dummy dwg, correct them, then re-import, but I want to correct the problem because this comes up on every time when importing into old LDD dwg.

Check the units

The drawing units (or the units in your survey database, if that's what you're using) may be set to international feet rather than US survey feet, which could cause a shift this large, depending on the magnitude of your coordinates.

International feet - default

Our Civil 3D software loaded with a default of international feet instead of U.S. Feet which is approximately a 1.9' shift in our area. The software adjusts all of the imported field data to the international feet coordinates in the drawing. If Civil 3D needs to be reloaded at a later date be sure to remember to check the default unit setting again since it could default back to international feet again.
