It seems that JAVAD is in favor of LightSquared being approved so that thousands of current GPS owners will be forced to upgrade to their equipment. I understand that they're trying to take advantage of this situation, but this is the wrong way to win customers. If I am forced to upgrade, JAVAD will be the last one I will ever buy from. LightSquared is in the wrong here and JAVAD is siding with them and intentionally hurting business owners.

Chad's comment probably reflects the sentiments and suspicions of many land surveyors and civikl engineers across the country. Ultimately, land surveyors deal in facts. So let's see what the facts are. I would hope that Dr. Ashjee's data and discussion will be made public and made available for us all to review INCLUDING HIS COMPETITORS. Dr. Ashjee's legacy in GPS is long and distinguished. Although we have excellent modern equipment; at Santa Rosa Junior College in northern California, we still introduce students to STATIC surveying methods and vector processing using Ashtech Promark 2s and Ashtech Solutions Software -- one of the most user friendly, well-writeen and well documented (help screens and GUI flow) GPS Desktop software packages that we have ever used and we have used them all. Eventually, the students transition on to modern hardware and apps but few are more bulletproof, better described, better documented and better written from a GUI programming standpoint. My point here is that Dr. Ashjee has worked for Trimble, Ashtech, Topcon and Javad. He does have technical knowledge that should be heard AND independently evaluated (stress on evaluated. If it proves out to be a money grab or an unfair alliance, we are pretty saavy consumers and the marketplace will determine his fate. The most important thing here is that the FCC allows additional INDEPENDENT feedback after he has presented his data. We should all be prepared to insist on that step from the FCC.
