China's
new satellite navigation system, Beidou, became active on Dec. 27, 2011. China has
launched 10 satellites for the Beidou system and plans to put six more in
orbit this year to enhance the system’s accuracy and expand its
service. According to a BBC report, the system is accurate to 10m, which
is low compared to that of the U.S., but it should improve as the
number of satellites grows.
