Groupe de géomatique Azimut inc., a Canadian consultancy specializing in GIS applications for municipal clients, has been appointed as a Leica Geosystems dealer for GIS-related products in Quebec and Eastern Canada.

Groupe de géomatique Azimut has been serving Quebec municipalities for 13 years; “At the time,” says Azimut’s GIS Sales Representative Antoine Busatta, “a provincial program was developing GIS and turning them over to municipalities for integration. Azimut was founded to help cities with GIS training, consulting, and software. Our business is still primarily focused on the GIS and cadastral needs of municipalities.”

The addition of GIS solutions from Leica Geosystems allows Azimut to offer full-service GIS consulting to municipal clients. “Basically, we were good at the ‘back end’ of GIS services, helping our clients to set up their office systems and publishing to the Internet,” explains Busatta, “Now that we offer Leica Geosystems technology we can help them with the ‘front end’ where they actually gather data and update their GISs.” Busatta expects that Leica’s Zeno Field and Office Software, and MobileMatriX Mobile Mapping and Data Collection Software will be especially useful to progressive municipalities. Azimut will also offer GIS-specialized total stations and GPS units, and train new users.

“Now that we have a complete solution for our clients, they won’t have to deal with multiple sources for the hardware and software they need to manage a successful GIS,” says Busatta, “We are dealers for anything they need that’s related to GIS, and we will train and customize as needed to make sure they benefit from their investment.”
