In lieu of the National Museum of Surveying’s Grand Opening on Saturday March 19, 2011, the museum is a site location for the National Society of Professional Surveyors’ Surveying USA event. At noon on March 19, numerous surveyors will be at the museum with their GPS equipment on display and simultaneously collecting data. This is part of a nationwide event, and the museum welcomes all geocachers and anyone with a GPS to come and participate in the surveying event. Finally, the surveyors will be on hand to answer any questions from the public. The hope is for the public to see what surveyors do. Admission to the museum is free for the day, and on every hour at the half hour, a special presentation will be shown on NOAA’s Science on a Sphere. There will be family activities and regular tours for the public.
