The National Museum of Surveying announces its Grand Opening on Saturday March 19th. The museum will be open to the public for free, but donations are encouraged. At 10 AM, there will be a ribbon cutting by the Springfield Chamber of Commerce. After the ribbon cutting, visitors will be able to tour the museum, and every hour on the half hour, a special show on the Science on a Sphere ® will be shown. All through the day, there will be family crafts and activities for children. In conjunction with the Grand Opening, the museum will be kicking off a fundraising drive to support the museum and its educational endeavors. The museum is looking to raise one million dollars by our first birthday, 3/19/2012. The museum is handicap accessible, and the museum is always looking for volunteers.

The opening is also in conjunction with National Surveyors Week, March 20 – 26, 2011 which was originally proclaimed by President Ronald Reagan in 1984.

The National Museum of Surveying is the only museum of its kind in the country. The museum allows visitors to see the world as they have never seen it before.
