Carlson Software is highlighting its new Surveyor+ GPS System during the Esri Survey and Engineering GIS Summit, which is being held July 10-13 in San Diego in conjunction with the Esri User Conference July 12-16. Two years in development and officially launched on July 2, the Surveyor+ GPS System is reportedly the lowest priced, most flexible solution of its kind for accurate, RTK data collection from either cellular-based reference stations or base-to-rover systems.
This dual-frequency RTK GNSS receiver and field controller comes with Carlson’s Surveyor+ data collector with its full keyboard, a GSM modem, GNSS board, pole, antenna and additional accessories. The “form factor” is compact with no bulky receiver on the pole and the unit can be used with total stations as well. For those who already own a Carlson Surveyor+ data collector, the RTK engine can be added at any time, making the system fully scalable.
"Surveyors can purchase just the data collector to operate almost any of their existing equipment and at a later time add the GPS/GNSS pack," says Butch Herter, director of Hardware Development for Carlson Software. "They can even do the install themselves in the field. The system is very rugged,” he adds, “and uses the same GNSS board technology as much more expensive systems.”
For surveyors doing field data collection, the Surveyor+ GPS can read all popular GPS/GLONASS message types and is a perfect companion to any RTK system. The Surveyor+ GPS System allows users to do their GPS fieldwork in the morning, establish control for total station work in the afternoon, all with a rugged hand-held unit. In addition, the rugged, reliable and accurate Surveyor+ GPS System comes with the highly popular Carlson SurvCE data collection software with its extensive GPS and total station drivers.
During a technical session at the summit, Carlson Software demonstrated the advantages of its SurvCE software--including its ability to interface with Esri software through .dwg imports and exports and enhanced template options. The company also noted that users of IntelliCAD can get a free copy of ESRI ArcView through Esri.
