Florida surveyors used to be a part of the "Department of Business and Professional Regulation" ... along with Architects, Engineers, Geologists, Real Estate Agents. Sure, hairdressers and talent agents and many others were lumped in there, but to me the key term was "professional".
Now were a part of the "Division of Consumer Services", where we are lumped in with telemarketers, used car salesmen, pawn brokers, and tour guides.

Sometime I wonder if our lack of public respect isn't brought on ourselves. This is an embarrassment to ourprofession consumer service.
