Leica Geosystems and MicroSurvey Extend Software Partnership

(Houston, 8 February 2010) Based on rapid growth of High-Definition Surveying (HDS) in civil/survey mapping applications, Leica Geosystems, the market leader in laser scanning products, and MicroSurvey Software Inc., a leader in mapping software, announced plans at SPAR 2010 for Leica Geosystems to resell MicroSurvey’s new PointCloud CAD mapping software on a global basis.

The new PointCloud CAD software was developed by MicroSurvey using Leica Geosystems’ point cloud engine (pcE) technology to efficiently manage large laser scan data sets from any scanner or aerial Lidar as users process point cloud data into mapping elements in the software’s final deliverables. The product is planned to be available from Leica Geosystems Feb. 15, 2010.

Natural Extension

“Adding MicroSurvey’s PointCloud CAD software to our product basket is a natural extension of Leica Geosystems’ product offerings for the survey market. This software meets the needs of organizations preferring to process large laser scan data sets into final map deliverables within a single, end-to-end software. We know PointCloud CAD’s laser scan data management capabilities are excellent because it’s based on the very same Leica Geosystems point cloud engine we use for our own point cloud software. Plus, we like the way MicroSurvey has integrated these capabilities into point-cloud-friendly, end-to-end mapping software that includes creating linework, surface models, contours, and better animations from laser scan data.” states Dr. Chris Thewalt, Director, Scanning Software Business, Leica Geosystems, Imaging & Scanning. “With all the features of MicroSurvey CAD 2010 Premium, such as complete survey drafting, COGO, DTM, traversing, volumes, data collection interfacing, Autodesk’s AutoCAD compatibility and more, this software offers users a rich solution.”

“MicroSurvey is delighted to extend its partnership with Leica Geosystems beyond the ForensicMap Pro software that we jointly introduced in 2009, ” states Darcy Detlor, CEO, MicroSurvey Software Inc. “Working with Leica Geosystems’ point cloud engine made it very easy for us to quickly develop an end-to-end mapping solution that’s point-cloud-friendly and high-performance. We’re also excited to have Leica Geosystems as a new distribution channel for PointCloud CAD software, leveraging their strong leadership position in the laser scanning market and Leica Geosystems’ overall outstanding reputation in the survey industry.”
