Intergraph’s integrated security solutions provided a common operating picture that aided Civil Protection Department personnel in their efforts to secure vulnerable areas, detect and assess threats and quickly respond to incidents. The integrated security system also enabled the exchange of intelligence between the Central Management Station and several remote command and control centers.
"As volatility around the world continues to increase, security forces face ever more demanding challenges for protecting people and property during critical events," said Jeff Vining, Gartner vice president and research analyst for government, homeland security and law enforcement. "To ensure safety and security at strategic and large-scale events, it is essential that security personnel deploy a comprehensive and collaborative approach that leverages the latest technologies to ensure they are equipped to detect and assess a broad range of threats, and respond as effectively and efficiently as possible."
"Upon the closure of the summit, the National Civil Protection Department chief and the chief of the G8 Organizational Mission appreciated the exceptional capabilities of the system delivered, and the support for the protection of the G8 Summit attendees. Furthermore the system successfully met the complex requirements outlined for the security initiative," said Lorenzo Mariani, SELEX Sistemi Integrati Large Systems Division chief. "We are pleased that our close collaboration with the Civil Protection Department and Intergraph directly contributed to the safety and security for all who were involved with the summit."
"As a global leader in public safety and security incident management and reporting solutions, Intergraph is honored to have partnered with SSI to support the security forces in their successful efforts to protect the G-8 heads of state and guests who attended the summit," said Halsey Wise, chairman, president and chief executive officer, Intergraph. "Once again, Intergraph has proven itself together with its partners in providing integrated security solutions capable of protecting high value strategic assets for the world’s most important meetings and large-scale events."
In addition to the development of the integrated security system, Rossi of Brescia, an Intergraph digital photogrammetry customer, provided aerial photos captured by Intergraph’s digital mapping camera (DMC), a large-format frame digital aerial camera. The photos were incorporated into the high resolution maps used by Civil Protection Department personnel and to advance situational awareness of those monitoring the G8 site and surrounding areas.
Intergraph’s large-scale event expertise also includes having provided security and public safety solutions for the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin, Italy, the 2006 World Cup in Germany, the 2006 Pan American Games in Rio de Janeiro, and the 2004 and 2009 United States presidential inaugurations.
