HUNTSVILLE, Ala., Sept. 1, 2009 – Intergraph has introduced its new geospatial Roadway Information Management Solution to enable transportation agencies to more clearly, efficiently and cost-effectively manage and protect their roadway infrastructure. With Intergraph’s Roadway Information Management Solution, transportation agencies can streamline operations, maintain compliance with federal regulations and improve safety and driving conditions for motorists by quickly addressing potential issues through faster, more informed decision making.

The solution enables executive and administrative staff to access information about projects, financials, surface conditions and more through dashboards and easy-to-use Web portals without the need for IT or geographic information system (GIS) expertise. It allows transportation agencies to track and monitor the location, condition and other important information about roadway assets including bridges, pavement, guardrails, signals and many others. From there, asset data is combined with traffic statistics, crash data, maintenance costs and other vital details, empowering agencies to make key decisions about factors such as work priorities and budget allocations. The solution also enables users to quickly provide asset data reports to the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) – such as the Highway Performance Monitoring System (HPMS) report due to FHWA each June – and to other government agencies to help maintain funding levels.

Through Intergraph’s Roadway Information Management Solution, critical roadway information is available in real time. For example, safety engineers can determine the most recent traffic count at a specific location, view the pavement conditions of a certain stretch of road or examine tight curves that may lead to accidents. The solution also provides field personnel the ability to remotely analyze a given section of a road, no longer requiring travel to a specific location to investigate problem conditions. With just a few clicks, a pavement engineer can see everything needed to make informed decisions from a single application, saving vast amounts of time and money.

“Developed through a powerful combination of Intergraph’s well-established, spatially-enabled GeoMedia software for the management and sharing of assets, industry best practices and R&D prototypes, the Roadway Information Management Solution provides an easy-to-use, comprehensive way for transportation agencies to maintain our nation’s roadways,” said James Brown, transportation industry manager for Intergraph’s Government & Transportation division. “Especially today, when upgrading our world’s critical infrastructure is a top concern, transportation agencies are seeking this solution to ensure they are maintaining existing assets and building new assets as needed to keep the roads in great condition, traffic flowing smoothly and people safe.”
