Pittsburgh, PA – (August 18, 2009) – Geospatial Holdings, Inc. announced today that the Company has been selected as a part of a team selected to provide underground pipeline utility location and mapping services over a three-year period to the Mississippi State Port Authority at Gulfport, Mississippi.
On August 29th, 2005, Hurricane Katrina made landfall on the Mississippi Gulf Coast, resulting in one of the worst natural disasters in the United States history. The Port of Gulfport’s electrical power supply, roads, water, sewer, rail, small craft harbor fender systems, navigational aids, and lighting and security systems were all destroyed or severely damaged by the storm.
As a result of this unprecedented storm, Federal aid has been allocated to the State of Mississippi to assist in recovery and rebuilding efforts. The Port is designated as a key element in these efforts and the Port of Gulfport Restoration Program was developed to establish a sustainable port facility capable of repositioning itself in the maritime marketplace and providing jobs to Mississippi residents.
The Mississippi State Port Authority at Gulfport has retained the team of Mississippi Engineering Group, Inc., Geospatial Mapping Gulf Coast, LLC (a wholly-owned subsidiary of Geospatial Holdings, Inc.), and Pickering Engineers to provide a program to locate, verify and map all above-ground and below-ground utilities throughout the entire Port area prior to the rebuilding of the Port.
Mark Smith, Geospatial’s CEO stated, “This contract, which should result in as much as $3 million in revenue to Geospatial over the next three years, was awarded based strictly on corporate capabilities and is a testament to Geospatial’s technologies. Our Geospatial Smart Probe Mapping Technologies and our GeoUnderground Portal provide valuable information to manage all types of critical infrastructure.”
Geospatial Holdings utilizes proprietary 3D sensing technologies to locate, map, perform condition assessment, and detect leaks of underground pipelines. Geospatial’s technologies include smart probes which can be deployed from within the pipeline. When coupled with commercially available condition assessment technologies or enhanced geo-referenced underground imaging technologies Geospatial is capable of creating 3-D geo-referenced maps showing the accurate position of both the pipeline and the anomalies within the pipeline.
All data derived from Geospatial’s sensing technologies is geo-referenced allowing the data to be managed and viewed in 3D within the Company’s robust web-based GeoUnderground GIS (geographic information system) Portal.
Geospatial’s business plan calls for a rapid low-cost deployment of our GeoUnderground Portal across large numbers of municipalities throughout the USA and abroad.
