Booked-up Crowne Plaza doesn't expect Obama visit to disrupt other events

President Obama will be speaking at the Crowne Plaza on Feb. 12 in honor of Lincoln's birthday. Perhaps he'll stop by the llinois Professional Land Surveyors Association's annual convention, which is taking place at the same time--at the same place.

There is no presidential suite at the Crowne Plaza hotel. But that’s just as well, because the 288-room property was fully booked well before Monday’s announcement that President Barack Obama will visit Springfield next week.
 
“We do have 12 suites, but none of them are presidential,” said hotel general manager Samie Bazuzi. “They are very spacious.”
 
Obama is scheduled to address the Abraham Lincoln Association’s annual birthday banquet at 7 p.m. Feb. 12 at the Crowne Plaza.
 
The president is attending the banquet as part of this year’s bicentennial celebration of Lincoln’s birth.
Most of the Crowne Plaza’s rooms have been booked for the Illinois Professional Land Surveyors Association annual convention, scheduled for Wednesday through Saturday next week. Convention organizers estimate about 800 will attend. ...
