I spent today in the field recovering benchmarks to incorporate into a network I am planning for a force main project. I had Tom Tom with me so I tried imputing the latitude and longitude from the data sheet. In every case Tom took me got me close. In two cases I drove right up the to the benchmark.
Here are photos of those two:
K 330 was set in 1950. It is very rare to find the witness post still intact.

S 373 was set in 1956 in a boulder. Long Island is a terminal moraine so the closest thing we have to bedrock are glacial erratics.

On the way home I stopped to snap this photo of a bridge Setauket.
