25' Grid of Pond-Suggestions?

I'm getting ready to do a 25' grid on a couple of 1 acre ponds, the deepest part being about 15'. I was planning on using the Line and Offset stakeout routine in TDS to control the grid with my robot (on shore).

For ease of tracking I'll mount the reflector with a quick disconnect to my kayak. Once near the grid point I'll transfer the reflector to my 25' rod, (kept at the lowest extension possible), take the shot, transfer the reflector back and paddle to the next location.

I could do basically the same with my GPS gear, but believe it would be safer (dryer) and easier to use the robot. Any suggestions on a better method?
