James Kuhta awarded 2008 "Paul Fenerty NJ State Technician of the Year"

 James “JAS” Kuhta is named 2008 “Paul Fenerty NJ State Technician of the Year” by the New Jersey State Society of Professional Land Surveyors (NJSPLS). NJSPLS awards honor individuals, firms, or projects for achievements in the practice of professional land surveying. The organization recognizes those who contribute to the profession and to society as a whole.

James “JAS” Kuhta is named 2008 “Paul Fenerty NJ State Technician of the Year” by the New Jersey State Society of Professional Land Surveyors (NJSPLS). NJSPLS awards honor individuals, firms, or projects for achievements in the practice of professional land surveying. The organization recognizes those who contribute to the profession and to society as a whole.
 
Mr. Kuhta is a Supervising Technician at Medina Consultants’ Hackettstown, New Jersey office.  He received his Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from Montclair State University in 1994 and continued on to earn his Bachelor of Science in Survey Engineering, graduating Magna Cum Laude in 2006 from NJIT (New Jersey Institute of Technology). While attaining his degree, Mr. Kuhta was the first NJIT surveying student ever to be inducted into the prestigious National Engineering Technology Honor Society (Tau Alpha Pi) and developed the online NJ Base Line Calibration & Data Form, a one-stop website for EDMI calibration. He currently has LSIT (Land Surveyor in Training) status and strives to obtain his NJ Professional Land Surveyor’s License. Mr. Kuhta joined Medina in 2006 after working at small, privately-owned surveying and engineering companies.
 
“This award represents recognition from professionals whom I greatly respect within the surveying field and is a wind at my back on my journey to NJ State licensure,” stated Mr. Kuhta.
 
Since joining Medina Consultants in 2006, Mr. Kuhta has been involved in the survey of site development and transportation projects, including  preparation of Manhattan easement maps for the Trans Hudson Express Tunnel (THE Tunnel), which involves a new state-of-the-art two track tunnel, new rail terminal, increased track capacity and a connection to rail lines in various counties. He plays an integral role on the survey team through expert technical skills with software platforms and field experience. 
 
Joseph Messina, Vice President and Director of Survey of Medina’s Hackettstown, NJ office, reacted by stating, “James has been a versatile member of the Medina Team. His fervor for growth and expansion of knowledge is exhibited in his direct involvement, dedication and professional approach to every project to ensure quality. Additionally, he has
contributed his time to the profession through his active involvement in the NJ Professional Land Surveyors and has truly earned the honor of being designated NJSPLS 2008 “Paul Fenerty NJ State Technician of the Year.” We are proud to have such an enthusiastic individual on our staff.” 
 
Mr. Kuhta is an Associate Member of the NJSPLS.  In addition, he also enjoys book collecting, is an avid fly-fisherman, outdoorsman, local history buff and kite flyer.
