Amendment would require surveyor for home improvements

WALLINGFORD - The Planning and Zoning Commission will consider an amendment that would require homeowners who want to build a deck, pool or home addition to hire a professional surveyor at a cost of up to $3,500.
Town officials say they are considering the requirement because there have been instances of people building on or too close to neighboring property. Hiring a surveyor will cost residents between $800 and $3,500.
Bush said the requirement will guarantee compliance with regulations and ensure that people do not build on other people's property.
Bush said she wants to publicize the proposal and hear from the public before it possibly becomes law. Town Attorney Adam Mantzaris proposed the regulation amendment at a zoning workshop in February.
