Unparalleled parallel

The 40th parallel of latitude might simply be a line on a map to some, but it's got historical significance in these parts - so one point on the parallel has literally been set in stone.
The City of Boulder and partners joined forces to create a 40th parallel marker and public art project, and the project is now on display near the Basemar Shopping Center on the south side of Baseline Road.
The project features a 25,000-pound boulder that was cut into two pieces so that it appears to be bisected by the 40th parallel, and LED lighting has been included to illuminate the gap. Also, the project includes an improved transit stop between Broadway and 27th Way, complete with a stained map of the world that features a red line denoting the exact 40th parallel.
