The new GNSS receiver option expands the POS AV capabilities so that users can take advantage of GNSS base station networks that are being upgraded to include GPS and GLONASS capable receivers. The overall result is an improved operational efficiency and robustness for the direct georeferencing of airborne sensors employed for geospatial imaging, including LIDAR, SAR, and digital or film cameras.
Processing of signals from both GPS and GLONASS satellites means faster and more reliable ambiguity fixes with cleaner trajectory processing. For airborne surveying, the extra GLONASS satellites also provide a significant advantage by decreasing periods of reduced dilution of precision (DOP), particularly at high latitudes, thereby extending the window for maximum surveying accuracy.
POS AV is a hardware and software system specifically designed for the direct georeferencing of airborne sensors used for geospatial imaging. By integrating precision GNSS with inertial technology, POS AV enables geospatial imaging projects to be completed more efficiently, effectively, and economically. Supported by Applanix' industry expertise and technological innovation, POS AV is engineered for aerial cameras, scanning lasers, imaging sensors, synthetic aperture radar, and LIDAR technology.
Support for GLONASS processing has also been added to the latest release of Applanix’ airborne post processing software, POSPac AIR Version 4.4. For more information on Applanix position and orientation solutions for marine, airborne, and land operations, please visit www.applanix.com.
The new GNSS receiver option for POS AV is expected to be available towards the end of the second quarter of 2007 through the Applanix sales network.
Applanix, a Trimble Company (NASDAQ: TRMB), develops, manufactures, sells and supports precision products that accurately and robustly measure the position and orientation of vehicles operating in dynamic environments.
