Safe Software's FME Feature Data Source Extends the Format Reach and Transformation Capability of Autodesk's Geospatial Products

Safe Software, the GIS industry''''''''''''''''s leader in Spatial ETL (Extract, Transform, and Load) technologies and the makers of FME(r) (Feature Manipulation Engine) technology, announced today development of the FME Feature Data Source for Autodesk Map(r) 3D, Autodesk MapGuide(r) Enterprise, MapGuide Open Source, and Autodesk MapGuide(r) Studio.

LAS VEGAS, Booth: #203: Safe Software, the GIS industry''''s leader in Spatial ETL (Extract, Transform, and Load) technologies and the makers of FME(r) (Feature Manipulation Engine) technology, announced today development of the FME Feature Data Source for Autodesk Map(r) 3D, Autodesk MapGuide(r) Enterprise, MapGuide Open Source, and Autodesk MapGuide(r) Studio.

The announcement was made at Autodesk University 2006, where Safe Software is exhibiting and demonstrating this new technology.

FME Feature Data Source gives Autodesk''''s geospatial product users a seamless connection to dozens of FME-supported formats using open source Feature Data Objects (FDO) technology. In addition, these users can access value-added versions of their data on-the-fly, leveraging the powerful data transformation capabilities of FME Workbench workspaces saved as custom formats.

"We wanted to provide Autodesk users the ability to access and work seamlessly with geospatial data using our FME technology, said Dale Lutz, Vice-President of Product Development for Safe Software. "By directly accessing and transforming data with the FME Feature Data Source, Autodesk users now have a powerful new option for CAD/GIS integration that leverages proven technology and vastly extends the format reach of these products."

"Overall, the FME Feature Data Source provides a convenient way to view or import data while transforming it into something more meaningful. For example, a user can apply FME geometry and schema transformations without having to translate their data into DWG or SDF3. This eliminates the need to make a copy of the data, instead you can view a transformed version of the original data directly," said Dale Lutz.

Jason Birch, Sr. Applications Analyst at the City of Nanaimo, is enthusiastic about the benefits that the FME Feature Data Source brings to his organization. "The FME Feature Data Source adds incredible value. Users in my organization now have access to all of our enterprise geospatial data in the familiar Autodesk Map(r) 3D environment. More importantly, they can set up complex custom formats in FME Workbench to derive additional value from our data," said Birch.

FME Feature Data Source will be available in FME 2007.

More about Safe Software and FME

Safe Software Inc. is the industry leader in Spatial ETL (Extract, Transform, and Load) technologies, providing both spatial data transformation solutions and professional services. Since 1993, Safe Software has focused on helping organizations enhance access to spatial data by providing software solutions that deliver seamless translation of nearly 200 GIS, CAD, and database formats.

Safe Software''''''''s flagship product, FME, is an integrated collection of Spatial ETL tools that manage the complex data format and schema transformations often required to access, and distribute location-based data. FME manages database loading, data extraction from legacy systems, merging multiple data sources, coordinate system conversion, and format to format translation for the exchange of map data. FME consists of four major components: a translation engine (FME Universal Translator), a graphical authoring environment (FME Workbench), a data inspection tool (FME Viewer), and application extenders that directly integrate into a variety of spatial applications.
