This month POB introduces the 2006 Miscellaneous Software Survey in our new searchable, comparable format. This exclusive, user-friendly online format is designed to provide you with the information you are seeking on various software-and it's available with just a few mouse clicks.

Our original mission in creating this survey was to provide an opportunity to highlight the products of developers who sell programs in categories other than conventional surveying equipment and software. This catch-all survey provides you with specs on a wide range of software products that don't quite fit into the other software surveys we offer.

The Miscellaneous Software Survey covers a wide range of applications, including hydrography, mapping and graphing solutions, legal description software and coordinate conversion software. More recently, an important type of software that manufacturers have added to this survey is data transfer programs. These linking programs are becoming increasingly important for today's surveyors who use a variety of devices and want to ensure seamless data transfer between all of their instruments and software applications.

We've compiled information to give you the basics on the software applications, including operating systems, customizing abilities, programming languages and file import/export abilities. You can check the specs in the survey to see each program's capabilities, ranging from COGO to 3D editing to DTM generation.

We also offer information you need to know when considering a purchase, including cost, availability of multi-license discounts and technical support policies. In keeping with our updated approach to our online product surveys, we have changed the contact information to list manufacturer websites, so you can easily link to more information on the products you are researching.

This new survey format has been designed to better serve you, our valued readers, as well as the product manufacturers and distributors. We hope you use our new format to research miscellaneous software products before making purchasing decisions, just as you have with our printed surveys. With our new, easy-to-use online format, you will be able to review the specs of a particular product or compare several products at a glance. Manufacturers will regularly update their entries in POB's surveys to keep you current on which products have been discontinued, which products have been improved and which products have been introduced to the market.

Our goal, as always, is to provide you with information that helps you succeed in business, so we hope that this survey aids your research of software that will streamline your business methods and practices. Click to our exclusive Miscellaneous Software Survey and compare the features of the software you are considering for purchase side by side.
