Aurora, CO USA - Merrick & Company, a world leader in LIDAR, digital ortho imaging, photogrammetry and GIS mapping was awarded a contract to deliver raw and processed LIDAR data, 2-foot contours, 6-inch color digital orthophotography, and 2.5 meter Color Infra Red Quick Bird satellite imagery covering 85 square miles to the Truckee Donner Public Utility District (TDPUD).

Aurora, CO USA - Merrick & Company, a world leader in LIDAR, digital ortho imaging, photogrammetry and GIS mapping was awarded a contract to deliver raw and processed LIDAR data, 2-foot contours, 6-inch color digital orthophotography, and 2.5 meter Color Infra Red Quick Bird satellite imagery covering 85 square miles to the Truckee Donner Public Utility District (TDPUD). Awarded in June 2006, the project is a collaborative effort managed by TDPUD and is funded by TDPUD, the Truckee Sanitary District, and the Town of Truckee. Final delivery of all data products is scheduled for later this year.

Gary Outlaw, GISP, Merrick's Vice President of Business Development, GeoSpatial Solutions explains, "There is steep slope and dense pine forest coverage in the project area. Merrick's technical approach enables us to provide highly accurate topographic data in this area of difficult terrain."

"Merrick's proposal was technically superior and far more cost effective than the other submissions," states Ian Fitzgerald, GISP, Geographic Information System Coordinator for the TDPUD. "Merrick also has extensive experience in mapping areas with terrain similar to ours," continues Fitzgerald.

The TDPUD is located in the Sierra Nevada Mountains, on the north side of Lake Tahoe, close to the Nevada border. A tourist driven economy, the region is experiencing growth in both primary and secondary homes. The new topographic data will provide the region with a single unified database to manage this growth as well as deliver cost effective high quality service to current customers. The data will be used for engineering design, electric utility planning and asset installation, water and sanitary sewer design, and three-dimensional hydrologic modeling.

"Through the use of our current basemap data, we have been able to significantly reduce electric design times, field construction times, and conductor waste from four percent to under one percent, realizing cost savings to our customers. We will be able to achieve these benefits and others going forward for our entire service area when we have full topographic coverage of our region," concludes Fitzgerald.
