July 2006 - Surveying And Mapping, Inc. is beginning work on a $1.8M contract to establish primary control and map 392 miles of the South Orient Railroad in West Texas. The South Orient Rail Road is operated for TxDOT by Texas Pacifico Railroad. Stretching from San Angelo Junction to Presidio, Texas, the project includes establishing 13 TxDOT Level I GPS points, 5 of which will be B-Order Points blue booked with NGS. Aerial Mapping will be flown 3,000' above mean terrain to produce 2' DTM. Planimetric drawing files and digital orthophotos for the route will also be provided to TxDOT ROW Division.
