The new certification, which has been approved by the U.S. Secretary of the Interior, is a significant addition to the credentials of the private professional land surveyor. The voluntary program provides a basic understanding of the public land survey system, metes and bounds surveys, the effects of case law, interpretation of the Manual of Instruction for the Survey of the Public Lands of the United States, accepted field procedures and proper documentation.
To learn more about the program or to register for the next session by April 15, visit blm.gov/cadastral/cfeds/cfeds.htm. A certified federal surveyor must be licensed by the state in which he or she is practicing.
