University Park, PA-David Grzelak, chairman and chief executive officer of Komatsu America Corp., has been named to the advisory board of Penn State's Leonhard Center for the Enhancement of Engineering Education. Grzelak is a 1971 industrial engineering graduate of Penn State.

Established in 1990, the Leonhard Center is focused on the continuous improvement of engineering education. Its advisory board members meet twice a year.

Grzelak began his career at General Electric Transportation Systems in 1971. While there he held numerous assignments with increasing responsibility in manufacturing, marketing, sales, and management.

He joined Komatsu Dresser Company in 1991 as vice president of sales and soon after was also named vice president of service. During his tenure with Komatsu, he has risen through the company's ranks and was named chairman and CEO of Komatsu America Corp. in 2002. Today he is responsible for five Komatsu operations in the

Grzelak holds a master's degree in business administration from Gannon University. In 1999 the Penn State College of Engineering awarded him the Outstanding Engineering Alumnus Award--the highest award conferred by the College. In 2001, Gannon University honored Grzelak with the Distinguished Master's Degree Alumni Award. In addition, he has also been inducted to the Penn State Behrend's Athletic Hall of Fame.
