POINT INC., Olathe, Kan., appointed Shigeyuki Sawaguchi to the position of vice president of business development. His primary role within the POINT organization involves developing strategic plans for future SOKKIA GPS products.

NOVATEL INC., Calgary, Alberta, Canada, acquired WAYPOINT CONSULTING INC., Calgary, Alberta. Waypoint is a precise positioning software company that produces real-time and post-processing position determination software using input from precision GPS and GPS/inertial systems.

LOCHRANE ENGINEERING INC., Orlando, Fla., promoted Christopher J. Leftakis, SIT, to project surveyor in the survey division.

Tom Arneson

JOHN OLIVER & ASSOCIATES INC., Brooklyn Center, Minn., announced Tom Arneson joined the firm as senior professional surveyor. Arneson has more than 30 years of surveying experience.

DIGITALGLOBE, Longmont, Colo., appointed Jill Smith to the position of president and CEO. Smith comes to DigitalGlobe with a wealth of experience leading commercial technology companies in the Internet, software and electronic publishing markets. Herb Satterlee will continue in his role as chairman of DigitalGlobe. In Satterlee's continued role as company chairman, he will be working with DigitalGlobe's defense and intelligence business unit, managing government relations around the world.

DIGITAL MAP PRODUCTS, Costa Mesa, Calif., opened offices in Dallas, Houston and San Antonio to deliver its map-enabled software applications to Texas-based organizations that rely on geographic information. The company is cultivating clients among Texas-based realtors, builders, land developers, title companies, utility companies, and local government agencies such as school districts and public safety departments. Duane Guidry, Tom Smith and Susan O'Rourke are the company's senior executives that head the Texas offices.

LEICA GEOSYSTEMS, Atlanta, Ga., appointed Valerie E. Richardson to the newly created position of vice president of strategic marketing and business development for the Americas. As part of a strategic initiative to enhance product marketing and planning in the Americas, Richardson assumes responsibility for providing leadership in all end-to-end strategic marketing areas.

Peter Batty

INTERGRAPH, Huntsville, Ala., announced that Peter Batty joined the company as vice president and chief technology officer. Batty brings to Intergraph more than 18 years of technology leadership experience in spatial and location-aware technologies.

ESRI, Redlands, Calif., announced Brent A. Jones, PE, PLS, joined the company as Industry Solutions manager. Jones graduated from the University of Maine with a degree in surveying engineering, is a registered professional engineer and licensed professional land surveyor, and is on the Geospatial Information and Technology Association Board of Directors (GITA), currently serving as treasurer.

Chip Teague

ALLEN PRECISION EQUIPMENT, Atlanta, Ga., appointed Chip Teague as the sales representative for customers in the southern/ coastal areas of South Carolina.
