URISA Announces 2001 Award Winners

The Urban Regional Information Systems Association (URISA) recognized members who demonstrated leadership and service as well as outstanding papers for the 2001 Conference Proceedings. All award winners were honored during the opening ceremony of URISA’s 2001 Annual Conference in Long Beach, Calif. Edward Craine, ESRI, Prairie Village, Kan., won URISA’s highest honor, the Horwood Distinguished Service Award. Hilary Perkins, AICP, transportation planner, Sverdrup Civil, St. Louis, Mo., won the Leadership Award. Service Awards were presented to Kim McDonough, GIS coordinator, Metropolitan Planning Department of Nashville/Davidson County, Tenn. and Kathrine Cargo, planning administrator, New Orleans, La. Helen Whyte, the Orton Family Foundation and Brenda Faber, ForeSite Consulting, Inc., Rutland, Va., both won the Horwood Critique Prize for their papers. Shilpam Pandey, John Harbor and Bernard Engle, Purdue University, West Lafayette, Ind., won honorable mention for their paper in this category. The Horwood Critique Student Prize award winner was Liou Cao, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Cambridge, Mass., and Ming Chi-Hung, University of Utah, Salt Lake City, Utah, won honorable mention for a paper in this category.
