The U.S. Census Bureau recently marked the U.S. Center of Population with the help of Berntsen International. Each state’s center is already marked by the U.S. Census Bureau. Using this information, the state group needs to perform those observations necessary to ensure the Center Station achieves a positional accuracy of 1-2 cm horizontally relative to the network of Continuously Operating Reference Stations (CORS) and High Accuracy Reference Network (HARN) stations.
It is recommended that a commemorative mark of 8” in diameter be used to mark the spot. The logo or design will be left up to each state’s organizing committee. For more information, visit www.acsm.net.
