Trimble, Sunnyvale, Calif., formed Trimble Information Services Inc. (TIS), which offers Internet location-based services. The new service offers complete fleet management solutions and location-enabled phone and mobile devices. TIS provides medium- and high-volume mobile asset management. It also provides wireless carriers with Internet applications for customers.

TIS offers location-based services with Trimble’s CrossCheck mobile communicator products for fleet management. Additionally, TIS can be used with phone messaging services for Wireless Application Protocol (WAP) and Short Messaging Service (SMS) connections.

TIS assumed the business of GRID DATA, an Internet-based location services company in Chandler, Ariz. Trimble Information Services Inc. functions as a subsidiary in Chandler, Ariz.
