LH Systems, San Diego, Calif., signed a letter of intent to acquire the business of Azimuth Corporation, Westford, Mass. By this acquisition LH Systems will enter into the LIDAR business.
Azimuth is the manufacturer of the AeroScan system for airborne laser mapping. AeroScan will be renamed the LH Systems ALS40 Airborne Laser Scanner. The ALS40 will include the POS/DG Position and Orientation System from the Applanix Corporation. The ALS40 will be distributed and supported through LH Systems’ existing sales and distribution network.
Bruce Wald, president and CEO of LH Systems, explained the acquisition, “There is a technical overlap between airborne sensors and LIDAR systems; both use flight planning, GPS, and inertial, computer, storage and software systems.” Wald said that by combining the two companies’ resources, LH Systems will improve their LIDAR solutions.
