Canadian Organizations Win Awards at GIS Conference

Domtar Forest Products, City of Kitchener and Elections Canada were all big winners.

Three Canadian organizations won awards from ESRI Inc., Redlands, Calif.. Domtar Forest Products, City of Kitchener and Elections Canada were recognized at the 21st Annual ESRI International User Conference in San Diego, Calif. Domtar Forest Products Inc. earned the ESRI Special Achievement in GIS award for its accomplishments in GIS technology. Domtar was recognized for its new interactive web-based GIS application, which provides valuable forest management information to the public. The City of Kitchener, Ontario, Canada, was the first place winner of the Internet Map Service competition at the Software Applications Fair. Its application, known as Corporate Information Application, is a customized ArcIMS implementation which integrates GIS, data warehousing and document viewing technology into one system. Elections Canada won third place in the Best Software Integration category of the Map Gallery for its map showing the distribution of Canadian federal electoral districts and how maps produced with the GIS were used to cartographically create and display boundaries and the geographic components of districts.
