Students Teach Leaders in MyCOE 01.01.2002

Students will participate in a project that challenges them to use geography.

Students around the world will participate in a project that challenges them to use the tools and methods of geography to study how their communities can become healthier and more livable, how they can exist in greater harmony with the natural world, and how to plan for the future. The project, entitled “My Community, Our Earth - Geographic Learning for Sustainable Development” (MyCOE), is sponsored and coordinated by the National Geographic Society, the Association of American Geographers, the United Nations Environment Programme, and ESRI, in conjunction with the Inter-American Development Bank, the United States Department of Agriculture, the U.S. Department of State, ERDAS Corporation, and the U.S. Agency for International Development. Selected projects will be displayed at many international venues, including the World Summit for Sustainable Development (WSSD) in Johannesburg, South Africa, where decision makers and professionals involved with sustainable development can review the solutions developed by the students.
