As part of a extensive project for Souder, Miler & Associates, a Santa Fe, N.M.-based engineering consulting firm, Scottsdale, Ariz.-based Vertical Mapping Resources (VMR) is providing black-and-white and color digital orthophotography of an expansive area that extends north and west of the city of Las Cruces, N.M.
According to Joe Bartorelli, VMR’s president, the mapping is being prepared at a scale of 1=100 feet with two-foot contours. The area is served by the Rio Grande natural gas company and encompasses the villages of Hatch and Dona Ana and the Town of Mesilla, all of which are partners in the project. Sponsored by the Mutual Domestic Water Consumer Association (MDWCA), the mapping portion of the effort involves using an airborne global positioning system (GPS) and inertial measurement unit technologies (IMU) to accurately coordinate raw and surface GPS coordinates.
