POB strives to be a provider of resources that help our readers succeed in business, just as our mission states.

We all rely on resources to do our jobs. Think how the countless trips to the courthouse to research old maps and plats to puzzle together a current job helped you immeasurably. How about that phone call to a friend in the business?

POB strives to be a provider of such resources that help our readers succeed in business, just as our mission states. How do we get the information to help you? We look in many areas for this information, seeking out the relevant information affecting the profession of geomatics. We rely on the manufacturers and their technicians. We talk with you, the people using the latest technology and often still effectively applying old techniques. And, in this day of “Computer Everything,” we look to the Internet, where vast amounts of data are posted from every corner of the Earth.

Heck, the day a friend directed me to google.com, I swore my job had become easier! And how about rpls.com? Thanks to the innovation of Mark Deal, RPLS, surveyors solve problems, trade hints, share jokes and personal stories, and offer advice on numerous topics on any given day. It's a very rich resource.

Manufacturers and dealers in this industry are the true gold nugget of resources. The hours these people put into concepts, manufacturing, production, marketing, distribution and support provide surveyors and other geomaticians the ability to better perform their jobs. But there are many choices of equipment, software, supplies and services planted in surveying consumers’ inboxes. And it can be overwhelming.

That’s where we hope we can help. The POB staff spends much time to provide our readers and online visitors with information, cross-tabulated, listed and in narrative form, to help in the decision making process. This issue is one example of that—our annual Buyers Guide. Beginning on page 25, you’ll find pages of manufacturers, dealers, trade names and professional services listings to help you choose a company or a product to suit your business needs.

If you need more detailed information regarding particular products, look to POB’s many product surveys. We gather specifications on numerous products, including laser scanners, GPS receivers and software, data collector hardware and software, GIS software and total stations (to name a few), so you don’t have to. Our research shows that many of you benefit from these surveys, so we’ll be sure to continue providing you with the most up-to-date and relevant data to help you choose the right product.

Another terrific resource is our panel of columnists. These men have been in the industry for many years and have developed into experts in their own realm. Our many online links, found at www.pobonline.com, further extend our library of resources, including: Calendar of Events, Contracts, Call for Papers, Hot Deals, Industry News and Legislative Roundup.

But one thing that helps POB to improve on its current collection of valuable information is you. Should you wish to see a particular topic in POB, please let us know; we’ll do our best to get it to you!
