Free seminar Offered -- Helping government to get the most from GIS 03.20.2003

SciSys, supported by partner Laser-Scan, announce free half-day seminar for UK Government organizations.

SciSys, supported by partner Laser-Scan, announce free half-day seminar for UK Government organisations to find out about the benefits of GIS (Geographic Information Systems).

More and more authorities and other government agencies are realising that GIS has a vital role to play in achieving 2005 e-government targets: all services must be available electronically by 2005.

The seminar: 'Modernising Government through integrated geographic information', will offer guidance through the maze of GIS jargon, advice on how best to implement GIS within an organisation, and help in getting the most from geographic information that already exists.

It will provide a useful starting point for anyone considering GIS as well as a helping hand for those who are already using GIS, but want to make sure they're gaining all the benefits. Delegates will learn:

  • How GIS can help in achieving 2005 e-government targets
  • How GIS and data re-engineering can help solve specific problems
  • How to implement a successful GIS strategy within their organisation.

'Modernising Government through integrated geographic information' Wednesday 30th April SciSys Head Office, Chippenham, Wiltshire, UK.

Seminar speakers include Ivan Bush from the Environment Agency (EA), presenting the National Flood & Coastal Defence Database initiative. Ivan will explain how the GIS technology employed in this project enables the EA to make more informed decisions on environmental defence operations and long-term needs. Laser-Scan's Nic Snape will present Radius Topology, the revolutionary GI tool which provides dramatic improvements to the speed and consistency of spatial data handling. The London Borough of Enfield has used Radius Topology to re-engineer its key corporate geographical dataset to create 100% clean and structured data; the project time was cut from five years to 5 weeks!
