CORS Users Forum at FIG Congress 02.14.2002

Workshop's theme is: Coordinating Regional and Statewide CORS Networks.

The National Geodetic Survey (NGS), an Office of NOAA's National Ocean Service, will host a one-day CORS (Continuously Operating Reference Station) Users Forum on Friday, April 19, 2002 at the NOAA campus in Silver Spring, Md.

The National and Cooperative CORS networks are comprised of numerous subnetworks operated by more than 45 organizations. Collectively, these networks include more than 500 sites--each containing a geodetic quality, dual- frequency GPS receiver--and these networks are growing at a rate of about six sites per month. NGS and its partners collect, process and distribute data from the CORS sites on a continuous basis in support of numerous activities including land surveying, navigation, GIS/LIS development, remote sensing, weather forecasting, satellite tracking, geophysics and time transfer.

This forum will focus on how federal, state and local government agencies--in partnership with international and other public organizations, private industry and academia--can foster coordination among the growing number of CORS subnetworks, especially those subnetworks of regional or statewide extent.

Registration (at no fee) for the forum is required by March 29, 2002 for planning purposes. For additional information and/or to register online see http://www.ngs.noaa.gov/CORS/Forum.

While in the DC area, be sure to attend the 2002 International Federation of Surveyors (FIG) Congress which is being held April 19-26 in conjunction with the the American Congress of Surveying and Mapping (ACSM) Conference and the Imaging and Geospatial Information Society (ASPRS) Conference.
