Andrew Sturgeon, PLS, was recently named Surveyor of the Year by the Maine Society of Land Surveyors. Sturgeon is vice president and chief operating officer for AMES A/E, a 35-person architecture and engineering firm located in Bangor, Maine and Portsmouth, N.H. To become Surveyor of the Year, the successful candidate must be an active professional who is working for the promotion and betterment of land surveying in Maine.

"In the past year Andy has been extremely active in promoting education on the local and national level," said Stephen W. Gould, outgoing president of the Maine Society of Land Surveyors. Gould presented the award to Sturgeon at a recent ceremony, citing Sturgeon's involvement with the Maine Land Use Regulatory Commission and President of MSLS as examples of his dedication to his field.

As Vice President of AMES A/E, Sturgeon's duties include Principal-In-Charge of several ongoing projects, and Manager of Geographic Services. The company he founded in 1984, A.E. Sturgeon & Company, grew to one of the largest surveying firms in northern/central Maine before it was purchased by AMES A/E in 1991.

In addition to his professional duties, Andrew Sturgeon is also very active in the community. He serves as president of Bangor Little League, is Chair of Bangor Water District's Board of Directors, and is a member of the Bangor Noontime Rotary Club. He, his wife, Karen, and their three children live in Bangor.
