Janet Jackson, Geographic Information System (GIS) manager with the engineering and surveying firm of McKim & Creed in Cary, N.C., has earned the certification of Geographic Information System Professional (GISP) from the Geographic Information Certification Institute, which was developed under the guidance of the Urban and Regional Information Systems Association (URISA).

The certification program recognizes professionals who demonstrate competence and integrity in the GIS field, and who establish and maintain professional practices and ethical conduct. Fewer than 20 professionals in North Carolina have received the GISP certification.

Jackson is a graduate of UNC-Chapel Hill, where she earned a degree in Geography, GIS / Information Science. As GIS Manager at McKim & Creed, she works with governments, educational facilities, and private clients to develop and implement GISs. Prior to joining McKim & Creed, Ms. Jackson was a GIS Coordinator with the Orange Water and Sewer Authority, and a GIS Technician with the Facilities Management Department at Duke University.
