Managing Director Dr Michael Sanderson lost no time in announcing to the audience that the Laser-Scan Management Team's bid to purchase the company had been successful and that everyone at Laser-Scan was focussed on a positive future. The response from delegates was one of wholehearted support.
The theme of interoperability permeated the agenda and was mentioned liberally in many of the presentations. High profile speakers shared their views on the GIS industry, the wider IT industry and the future directions of technology. Customers demonstrated how Laser-Scan technology is helping them to achieve their business aims; partners showed how they are using the same technology to help their own customers.
The conference got underway with a keynote address from Adena Schutzberg, editor of GIS Monitor; Adena tackled issues surrounding "The Elusive Nature of Interoperability". The keynote on Day Two was delivered by David Sonnen, Senior Analyst for Spatial Information Management, IDC; David explored the ways in which Return on Investment (ROI) can be delivered from geospatial data and technology.
In line with Laser-Scan's strategy of delivering market-focussed solutions and new technology the company unveiled its latest product, Clarity. Delegates were among the first to sample the advanced functionality of the new automated generalisation product as part of a special session dedicated to generalisation. http://www.clarity.laser-scan.com/.
Throughout the programme delegates had the chance to sample demonstrations at the Laser-Scan Partner Showcase: Autodesk, Intergraph, MapInfo and Ordnance Survey showed their latest products and solutions. This was one of the first occasions that delegates at a GIS vendor event were able to visit representatives from other leading GIS vendors; this is just part of Laser-Scan's commitment to partnerships and interoperability.
