MoreTopcon Positioning Systems, a manufacturing company of surveying equipment and the PPI Group, worked together with instructors Jim Coan and Martin Paquette to get this equipment into the surveying program, which will help students be better prepared for work in the surveying field.
The equipment could not have come at a better time. Last June, while students were out doing field lab, someone drove by and stole $20,000 of the college's GPS equipment. "Timing was amazing," said Coan. "Topcon stepped up and gave us all this new equipment."
"We have had a long relationship with RTC and the surveying program and are very excited about being able to provide them with some of the latest technology," said Ken Shersty, branch manager of the PPI Group. "Topcon and PPI Group recognized the misfortune of losing some GPS equipment and we felt it was a great opportunity to help the college out."
RTC offers an 11-month Field Survey Technician program and a 9-month Land Survey Technician program; together they make up a two-year Associate of Applied Science degree.
