Sanborn Appoints New CEO 10.15.2003

John Copple announced as chief executive officer for the company, effective immediately.

Martin Morgan, chairman of Sanborn, a geographic information system (GIS) and photogrammetry industry leader, today announced the appointment of John Copple as chief executive officer for the company, effective immediately. He also announced that the company, formerly based in Pelham, New York, relocated its headquarters to Colorado Springs this month. Mr. Copple will be based in the Colorado office.

Mr. Copple is a pioneer in the satellite imagery industry. In 1995, he joined Space Imaging, a satellite imagery company then in its infancy. When he left his position as chairman and chief executive officer earlier this year, the Denver-based company was the premier provider of satellite imagery worldwide. Over the last few months Mr. Copple has served as a consultant to the Rand Corporation supporting the National Imagery and Mapping Agency.

Prior to joining Space Imaging, Mr. Copple had a distinguished career in a variety of business and financial roles at Dallas, Texas-based E-Systems, a technology systems company which was acquired by Raytheon. Prior to joining E-Systems, Mr. Copple worked for Austin, Texas-based Tracor, an aerospace company now part of BAE Systems.

¿John comes to Sanborn with a wealth of experience in the remote sensing and GIS industries, and possesses broad knowledge of commercial, federal government, and international customers,¿ said Morgan. ¿During his time at Space Imaging, he built the company into the best known and largest of the satellite imaging companies¿and thus he is very well-positioned to lead Sanborn into its next phase of growth. We are most fortunate in having someone with John¿s experience and talent to lead our company.¿

¿I¿m looking forward to working with the experienced and knowledgeable Sanborn team to fully develop the potential of this company into the clear leader in our industry,¿ remarked Copple.
