Shanghai Telecom Selects Intergraph Technology as Enabling Core of Enterprise Network Resources Management System

G/Comms supports reliability of communications network and ensures high-quality service.

Intergraph Mapping and Geospatial Solutions, Shanghai Office, announced that Shanghai Telecom (SHT) selected Intergraph's G/Comms software as the enabling AM/FM/GIS core of its Enterprise Network Resources Management System. A subsidiary of China's largest communications company, China Telecom, SHT serves seven million customers and carries a telephone capacity in excess of eight million lines. G/Comms will play a critical role in SHT's growth and competitiveness by enabling the company to effectively manage, maintain and monitor its rapidly evolving network topology.

The project is a joint effort between Intergraph and Guoxin Lucent Technologies, which is a venture partnership between Lucent Technologies, China Telecom and Shanghai Telecom. Guoxin Lucent Technologies is the contractor and system integrator while Intergraph is providing software, data conversion support and system implementation.

Tailored specifically for communications industry workflows, G/Comms defines a new standard for functionality, open database access, scalability and performance. The Enterprise Network Resource Management System, enabled by G/Comms, will be deployed to 16 subsidiaries in order to streamline departmental workflows involved in design, planning, operations and maintenance, construction, and marketing activities. The project scope includes upgrading SHT's legacy AM/FM/GIS system, based on Intergraph's flagship FRAMME solution, to the next-generation G/Comms technology.

According to Yin Jie, senior manager of Shanghai Telecom's Network Resources Center, "In order to compete in today's fast-track business environment, we put strong emphasis on building an open, standards-based technology foundation that will meet our current needs while gaining the flexibility and performance we'll need to serve our future markets."

"This has the distinction of being the first G/Comms implementation in China and we look forward to other opportunities with our partner, Guoxin Lucent Technologies," said Benson Law, Regional Director, Utilities & Communications Division, Intergraph Mapping and Geospatial Solutions, North Asia. "We also commend Shanghai Telecom for its technology vision and commitment to standards that will maximize the company's geospatial data as never before."

The system is scheduled for completion at the end of this year.
