Industry products for public works and transportation infrastructure management and land information management take advantage of GeoMedia technology's open systems and data interoperability.

Intergraph Mapping and GIS Solutions is showcasing robust GeoMedia PublicWorks Manager, GeoMedia Parcel Manager, and GeoMedia Transportation industry products for the local government, water and wastewater, cadastre, and transportation markets at GeoSpatial World 2002. These products build on the GeoMedia 5.0 core products to deliver specific workflows for the industries that Intergraph serves. The new GeoMedia 5.0 core products provide new levels of performance, flexibility, and scalability to mapping, GIS, and IT professionals. Using the open systems solutions and data interoperability of GeoMedia technology, GeoMedia 5.0 industry products enable organizations to increase productivity in the maintenance and analysis of their geospatial information.

"We continue to raise the standards with comprehensive industry solutions that offer capabilities ranging from project planning to project implementation, and products that integrate seamlessly to serve customer needs enterprisewide," said Bart Hoogenraad, global marketing director of Intergraph Mapping and GIS Solutions. "We are committed to providing open industry standards that enable easy data sharing, regardless of format, and to delivering the most robust and efficient solutions for land information, public works, and transportation management to safeguard valuable geospatial and business data investments."

Effective public works infrastructure management GeoMedia PublicWorks Manager 5.0 provides powerful infrastructure management tools designed for water and wastewater networks. Running in conjunction with GeoMedia Professional, GeoMedia PublicWorks Manager provides industry-specific advanced capabilities such as rule-based digitizing and editing, network validation, network tracing, and dimensioning.

The first of these capabilities, rule-based digitizing and editing, enables public works professionals to define and use feature relationships and behaviors that will increase operator productivity during data capture and editing. For instance, when types of fittings that can be connected to a water main are defined according to rules, the capture and edit commands will prevent the operator from placing inappropriate features in the network. Another capability provided in version 5.0 is network validation, a powerful tool for locating fittings and pipes in the network where predefined rules have been violated. For example, an operator would be notified if a water tee were not connected to the prescribed number of mains.

Network tracing is an advanced capability of version 5.0 that is used to visualize the flow of water in the network and solve specific operational problems. For instance, a public works provider could trace the sewer network after a toxic spill to locate and understand the problem quickly, minimizing harm to the community. Dimensioning functionality allows an operator to define several types of dimensions to make views and plots more readable and relevant. Because the dimensions are associative, modifications to the geometry will cause the displayed text to automatically update.

Leading-edge solutions for parcel and boundary maintenance workflows GeoMedia Parcel Manager 5.0 delivers configurable functionality for parcel and boundary maintenance. Land management professionals will appreciate commands and workflows specifically tailored for cadastral and property mapping workflows, enabling efficient collection and maintenance of parcel boundary and related land information in a nonproprietary database environment. Built on GeoMedia Professional 5.0, GeoMedia Parcel Manager provides tools and capabilities for up-to-date management of evolving enterprise geospatial data.

Special capabilities provided by GeoMedia Parcel Manager allow land information management professionals to perform geometry proportioning, reconciling accurate survey plan data with existing geospatial data, even if the existing data is not totally accurate. Coordinate geometry (COGO) capability transforms subdivision plans and metes and bounds descriptions into geographic information systems (GIS) data. With data integration functionality, the software can retrieve data from virtually any data source and integrate it into a single environment with no translation required.

GeoMedia Parcel Manager's parcel numbering and labeling capability supports the most common numbering systems and provides the tools to efficiently label and annotate parcel maps. Property merges and splits are automatically processed and validated using intelligent integration tools. The tools to integrate survey data and adjust geometry enable storage of adjustment parameters in any supported database through database-centric adjustment definition and management.

Enterprisewide transportation industry products GeoMedia Transportation Manager and GeoMedia Transportation Analyst enable the development, maintenance, and analysis of a transportation linear referencing system (LRS). An LRS allows an operator to define a feature or location by its linear distance from a known point on a linear network. GeoMedia Transportation Manager provides the capabilities to build, edit, calibrate, and validate an LRS and also provides dynamic segmentation, a powerful tool for analyzing tabular data referenced to an LRS. This lets users visualize their organization's inventory of assets more clearly than with traditional tabular reports. Creating map features representing pavement conditions, accident data, and average daily traffic helps provide business-critical information for accurate decision making. This kind of information helps plan and budget improvements, identify where the organization is spending its money, and provide critical details clearly and accurately to project participants.
