MoreLeica Geosystems’ GIS & Mapping Division announces that Japan’s largest surveying and mapping company, PASCO, has passed a benchmark of selling 1,000 licenses of ERDAS IMAGINE, a total digital solution for transforming raw imagery into 3D GIS data. The ERDAS IMAGINE software is the foundation of the Leica Geosystems GIS & Mapping Division’s Geographic Imaging product line.
PASCO began distributing ERDAS products in Japan in 1987, became a sole agent in 1988, and is one of the world’s largest suppliers of geographical information and a leader in the implementation of the most modern surveying and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) technologies.
The benchmark announcement comes on the heels of PASCO formalizing an agreement with Leica Geosystems to develop the fast growing market of GIS further. The collaboration will concentrate not only on Leica Geosystems’ products and technologies but also on the development of completely new solutions together with Leica Geosystems and ESRI, the international provider of GIS software. PASCO was the first company worldwide to use the ADS40, an airborne digital sensor produced by LH Systems, which provides the foundation of Leica Geosystems’ GIS & Mapping Division’s Airborne Data Acquisition products. PASCO also provides its customers with the most recent technology for producing 3D images and models using the Cyrax laser scanner, another advanced product from Leica Geosystems. PASCO has been a sole agent for ESRI, the market leader in the GIS software segment. Recently PASCO and ESRI founded and made the decision to establish a new company, ESRI Japan Corporation. The exclusive distributorship of ERDAS and ESRI in Japan will be transferred to ESRI Japan Corporation in April 2002.
