What's New in FEMA
The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), Washington D.C., renamed the Cooperating Technical Communities Initiative as Cooperating Technical Partners or CTP. The CTP is a program that creates partnerships between FEMA and National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) communities, regional agencies and state agencies that want to become more active in the FEMA Flood Hazard Mapping program. To find out more about the CTP visit, www.fema.gov/mit/tsd/ctp_main.htm. In addition, FEMA is now offering the second GIS tutorial series, which provides information on FEMA's use of GIS technology to create digital flood insurance rate maps. You can view these tutorials online, www.fema.gov/mit/tsd/ot_gis2r.htm.
FEMA also has a new edition of the Compendium of Flood Map Changes. This is a list of changes made to National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) maps during the last six months of 2000. Compendium issues are available online through .pdf format, www.floodmaps.net/mit/tsd/DL_comp.htm.
FEMA also features the FEMA online flood map store, http://web1.msc.fema.gov/webapp/commerce/command/ExecMacro/MSC/macros/welcome.d2w/report. The store allows business customers to purchase maps and related FEMA products online. All other customers will be able to order online beginning this summer. In the meantime, they can order by calling 1-800-358-9616.
