The 4th annual GIS Certificate Program will be offered July 2-August 31, 2001, at the University of California, Riverside. A mandatory prerequisite course in "Introduction to ArcView" must be completed before entering the 10-course GIS program. This intensive summer program is offered during the rest of the year in semester increments. According to the program coordinator for GIS, Jennifer Campbell, in the department of natural sciences, "We get people from around the world, including Thailand and India, that attend this program." Campbell also said that summer is the busiest time for the GIS program, allowing the students to gain certification in two months instead of the regular academic semester.
