The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Water Resources office, South Dakota, launched a flood tracking website for federal, state and local agencies and organizations to monitor the potential flooding of the Vermillion, Big Sioux and James Rivers. The site will also provide the general public information and news about stream levels and flood risks.
The flood tracking website shows a map of South Dakota and features approximately 125 USGS streamflow-gaging stations. Users can click on a point of interest and obtain real-time data. The user can also obtain current streamflow information for a specific area and gage-height values for the last five days.
The website was launched on April 6, 2001, and can be accessed at http://sd.water.usgs.gov/flood.
