CAiCE Software Corporation Releases Visual PE 06.18.2002

The addition of 3 new products offers a comprehensive integrated civil engineering software solution.

CAiCE Software Corporation is proud to announce the newest release of its civil software suite called Visual PE. Visual PE delivers a comprehensive suite of civil engineering software tools that are designed to handle all survey, design and construction related projects. Visual PE is a tightly integrated package that offers new products, significant user interface enhancements and over 350 new or improved features all designed to increase the capabilities, ease of use and stability of the product. Visual PE has already been shipped to existing CAiCE clients on maintenance and is available for shipment.

Three new software solutions have been added to the Visual PE Suite; Visual Drainage, Visual Bridge and Visual LandscapeTM, which are joined with Visual PE’s existing products (Visual Survey, Visual Roads, Visual Construction and Visual Hydro) to offer an integrated software suite that further leverages project data and streamlines the workflow process. By addressing a wider array of engineering disciplines, no one area is left out of the engineering process. Now internal departments as well as consultants can better coordinate their workflow and exchange data with confidence. Visual PE improves existing functionality with new user-friendly enhancements, new productivity and ease-of-use commands, as well as powerful editing, visualization and data management tools. It helps organizations become more productive — and better leverage existing data resources — all while reducing costs.

CAiCE’s new Visual Landscape Software is a comprehensive tool that automates the job of the landscape architect, providing a graphically interactive environment to place plants and irrigation systems. It provides a fast and easy way for the landscape designer to interactively choose appropriate plants, trees, and shrubs for local conditions, locate plants on a site, design and analyze irrigation systems, create and label finished landscape and irrigation drawings, as well as produce detailed quantity tabulations.

Visual Bridge provides utilities to quickly create precise three-dimensional bridge models, so designers can easily send preliminary site data to the bridge and structures office. This provides the roadway design engineer the contour and cross section alignment information needed to accurately model the appropriate size and type of structure for the proposed highway. This powerful visualization tool also provides bridge departments a fast and cost effective way to present their design for approval.

Stormwater runoff is becoming an increased concern for highway engineers, and Visual Drainage provides the tools to easily integrate the drainage design process with highway design. Visual Drainage expedites the time consuming manual input still performed by some Drainage Engineers by automatically placing existing roadway design data into interactive dialog boxes or reports. It automatically performs constraint and design checks by flagging potential design problems. Visual Drainage is completely integrated with Visual PE’s digital surface modeling and roadway design systems, allowing for smooth transfers of data and fast interactive modeling and analysis.

One of the most innovative new features of Visual PE is the addition of Visual ToolBox. A Visual ToolBox is a customized repository for commands, macros, web links and external programs required for a specific set of related tasks. They are extremely beneficial for users that strictly work in one particular discipline and do not want to learn the entire software program command structure. Visual ToolBoxes are easy to create, easy to use, and completely customizable. They can literally change the way you work and help create a more efficient work flow and project production process. Visual ToolBox capabilities are featured in Visual PE’s new Visual Drainage, Visual Landscape and Visual Bridge Software Solutions and can be utilized within any CAiCE product.

Another Visual PE productivity enhancement is the addition of new and improved Picker Control options. Picker Controls display a pop-up list of command options for inputting data into command dialog boxes. Many new timesaving options have been added to the picker control menus for geometry chains, elevations, distances, and positions. For example, the Elevation Picker now includes options to get the elevation from a profile, from a cross section, from a survey chain, or by a grade and distance from a known point. The Position Picker includes options for defining a position from a cross section, locating by direction or angle and distance, dividing an element, and calculating tangencies on a curve. In addition, Picker Controls can now be placed in VBA macro forms, making the operation of macros more consistent with Visual PE’s core commands.

For Surveyors, Visual PE introduces the Leica ToolBox, a new translator for directly importing and exporting Leica data files. The result of a Cooperative Software Development Agreement between CAiCE and Leica Geosystems, this integration offers direct output from the Leica TPS to Visual Survey via the Survey Data Management System (SDMS) data format. The direct output to Visual Survey eliminates the need to translate or convert data, and ensures that all survey information is retained. The export to Leica’s native GSI format allows points, alignments and cross sections to be used by nearly all Leica instruments for stakeout purposes.

CAiCE has continued to improve upon its industry leading Fragment technology used by engineers to create roadway design models. A fragment is a user-definable macro that automatically inserts components of the roadway, such as medians, lanes, curbs, and shoulders, making initial layout more efficient. With Visual PE, Fragments are now selected and inserted using a Visual ToolBox, allowing fragments to be better organized and more easily accessed. Users will now be able to reset the design sections over a range of stations, instead of one station at a time.
